BREEDPLAN
Australia's national genetic evaluation system for beef cattle, producing EBVs used by stud and commercial producers across all major breeds.
BREEDPLAN is Australia's internationally recognised genetic evaluation system for beef cattle, managed by the Agricultural Business Research Institute (ABRI) at the University of New England. It analyses performance data submitted by stud breeders to produce Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) for a wide range of economically important traits including growth, fertility, carcase, and temperament.
The system uses Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP) technology, which accounts for environmental effects such as management group, age of dam, and contemporary group performance. This means that animals raised in different environments can be fairly compared. BREEDPLAN processes data for virtually all major beef breeds in Australia, and its EBVs form the basis of most bull sale catalogues and sire summaries published across the country.
For stud breeders, submitting accurate performance data to BREEDPLAN is fundamental to genetic progress and sale-day success. Buyers increasingly rely on BREEDPLAN EBVs to benchmark animals against breed averages and make purchasing decisions aligned with their breeding objectives. Integration with genomic testing has further enhanced the accuracy of BREEDPLAN evaluations, particularly for young animals with limited progeny data.
How Frisbee Helps You Present BREEDPLAN Data
Frisbee makes it straightforward to include accurate genetic data — including breedplan information — in your sale catalogues and marketing materials. Our catalogue builder is designed for Australian stud producers, ensuring that breeding values, pedigrees, and performance data are presented clearly and professionally.
With Frisbee's integrated marketing tools, you can communicate the genetic merit of your offering directly to your buyer database through targeted email campaigns, ensuring that the right buyers see the data that matters most to them before sale day.

Estimated Breeding Value (EBV)
A statistical estimate of an animal's genetic merit for a particular trait, expressed as a deviation from the breed average.
Genomic Testing
DNA-based analysis that enhances the accuracy of breeding values by directly measuring an animal's genetic makeup.
Sire Summary
A published report listing the breeding values of sires within a breed, enabling producers to compare genetic merit across bulls or rams.
EPD (Estimated Progeny Difference)
A genetic prediction of how an animal's offspring will perform compared to the progeny of an average animal in the same breed, widely used in North American systems.
Breeding Objective
A defined production goal that guides genetic selection decisions, balancing the traits most important to a producer's enterprise profitability.
